ABOUT ABOUT

The Oswego High School Drama Club will present an evening of student written, directed, and acted plays on April 26 & 27, 7:30 PM at the Robinson-Faust Theater at Oswego High School. This evening of short, original plays closes a dynamic theatrical season for OHS. Inspired by the MeToo Movement, the Oswego High School productions included the mid-century classic “Picnic” by William Inge and Cole Porter’s battle-of-the-sexes musical “Kiss Me, Kate!” The new play festival touts an “American Girl” theme and aims to explore the emotional, intellectual, and political aspects of being a young woman in 2019.

“The new play festival presented last spring was truly embraced by the community,” said drama club co-advisor Garrett Heater. “It is important for the students to gain experience in the areas of playwriting and directing, not just acting.” Former SUNY Oswego Theatre Department Chair Mark Cole will host a workshop for the student directors and actors. Heater will provide guidance for the emerging playwrights. “We are very pleased to end our successful, female-centric season with student produced short plays,” said co-advisor Robert Dumas. “The Oswego High School Drama Club is proud to give students a platform for their voices to be heard.”

The student playwrights include Derek Putnam, Alexandra Reith, Kat McGreevy, Zeida Olson, and Jonathan Tsutsumishita. Student directors include Aidan Thompson, Mitchell Hudson, Veronica Jones, Allie Griffin, and Grace Hoffman. Student actors include Alixander Pauldine, Liam Tovey, Gretchen Dowd, Katie Nettles, Abby Cook, Melanie Solano, Kendra Garvey, Tori Payne, Andrew Bornheimer, and Audrey Hinman.

The run time for the collection of new plays is about 60 minutes.
